General Characteristics of Alloy Steel 2515
Also known as AISI-SAE 2515, Alloy Steel 2515 is a nickel steel formulated to meet the needs of low-temperature and heavy-duty carburizing applications. Alloy Steel 2515 resists corrosion better than basic carbon steel.

Heat Treatment of Alloy Steel 2515
- Normalize at 1525° to 1575°F (829° to 857°C) before air cooling
- Anneal at 1500° to 1550°F (816° to 843°C) before furnace cooling to produce maximum hardness of 197 Brinell
- Carburize at 1650° to 1700°F (899° to 927°C)
- Gas or pack carburize
- Speed carburizing at 2000°F (1093°C)
- Harden by heating carburized alloy from 1400° to 1575°F (760° to 857°C) before oil quenching; heat non-carburized alloy to 1450° to 1575°F (788° to 857°C) before water or oil quenching
- Temper carburized alloy 300° to 450°F (149° to 232°C); non-carburizned alloy to 1100°F (593°C) for required toughness and strength

Machinability of Alloy Steel 2515
- Standard carburizing alloy equipment and processes:
- Normalized
- Normalized and tempered
- Quenched and tempered
- Isothermally transformed to Rockwell C 13-25
- Easily machine when cold drawn with continuous, hard chip
- Cold drawn: 55% AISI B112 Bessemer screw stock
- Normalized or hot rolled: 45% AISI B112 Bessemer screw stock
Workability of Alloy Steel 2515
- Hot work 1900° to 2250°F (1038° to 1232°C)
- Finish at 1700°F (927°C)
- Account for exceptional strength of Alloy 2515 when cold forming with typical processes for normal carbon steel
