General Characteristics of Multimet™ Alloy

An iron-chromium-nickel-chromium alloy, Multimet is ideal for high-heat applications to 2000°F (1093°C). It resists oxidation and easy to hot work or cold form. Use conventional machining methods and a variety of arc and resistance welding techniques.

• Nickel 19.00-21.00
• Cobalt 18.50-21.00
• Chromium 20.00-22.50
• Molybdenum 2.50-3.50
• Tungsten 2.00-3.00
• Carbon 0.08-0.16 (castings 0.20 max)
• Nitrogen 0.10-0.20
• Columbium and tantalum 0.75-1.25
• Silicon 1.00 max
• Manganese 1.00-2.00
• Iron balance

Heat Treatment of Multimet™ Alloy

• Water quench or rapid air cool
• Stress relieve following hot working procedures
• Age at 1500°F (816°C) with 4-hour soak

Applications of Multimet™ Alloy

• Aircraft and high-temperature parts, including:
  • Tail pipes
  • Tail cones
  • Exhaust manifolds
  • Combustion chambers
  • Afterburner components
  • Turbine buckets and blades
  • Nozzles
  • Bolts

Machinability of Multimet™ Alloy

• High-speed steel or carbide tools for conventional machining

Workability of Multimet™ Alloy

• Forge between 2200° and 1700°F (1204° and 927°C) after soaking
• Spin, draw and dish cold
• Immediate anneal may be necessary
