Titanium Ti-4Al-3Mo-IV is a heat-treatable sheet alloy that offers exceptional strength, creep and stability up to 900°F (482°C). The alloy will not corrode from salt or atmospheric environments and provides room temperature tensile strength of 185000psi minimum

- Aluminum 3.75-4.75
- Molybdenum 2.50-3.5
- Vanadium 0.75-1.25
- Nitrogen 0.05 max
- Hydrogen 0.15 max
- Iron 0.25 max
- Carbon 0.08 max
- Titanium balance
Heat Treatment of Titanium Ti-4Al-3Mo-1v
- Anneal by holding at 1300° to 1400°F (704° to 760°C) for 30 minutes before gradual cooling
- For stress relief, heat at 900° to 1100°F (482° to 593°C) before air cooling
- For solution treatment, hold at 1600° to 1650°F (871° to 899°C) for 15-30 minutes, then water quench
- For aging treatment, follow solution treatment by reheating and holding at 925°F (496°C) for 6-12 hours

- Aircraft industry, including internal structures, stiffeners and skins on airframes

- Rigid machine setups
- Good coolant
- Sharp tools
- Heavy feeds
- Slow speeds
- Straight tungsten carbide grades and cobalt high speed steels perform satisfactorily
- Use water-based or chemical cutting fluids
Workability of Titanium Ti-4Al-3Mo-1v
- Aged and solution-treated sheets can be bent, wrapped and jogged at room temperature
- Use annealed alloy when performing extensive hot forming above 1100°F (593°C)
- Achieve top formability and smallest bend radius with solution-treated alloy
- Aged and solution-treated alloy appropriate for minimal forming
